Strega look

of reading - words

The word Strega is derived from the Latin term Stregeria which literally translates to "witch". And fashion is about exactly that... witchy fashion. We're pretty sure we've all been inspired by the witch community that exists and has a large following among the goth community.

Modern witchy style has been incorporated into the Goth fashion scene for a long time and has recently gained recognition. . Strega fashion although inspired by witch culture, its origin lies in the roots of Dark Mori fashion. Dark Mori is an offshoot of the Japanese Mori Kei fashion scene. Mori Kei is Japanese street fashion that has clothing layered with nature-themed accessories and dresses. Makeup is also kept natural. "While Mori Kei'scolor is typically off-white, beige, then brown, dark mori is black, dark gray, brown, then other earth tones without venturing into natural kei, dark mori can easily have earthy greens, brick reds, and rich purples while still remaining within the genre.

This should not be confused with the fashion of the current witching community which does not follow any fashion style. Going back to Strega fashion in the goth community, fashion is used to categorize the idea of “witchcraft” and make it their own. For example, we know the famous Killstarco quote: "You say witch like it's a bad thing."

Witch fashion usually includes common symbolism like wearing pentacles, long robes, and neutral clothing (due to the fact that the term witch is a gender-neutral term used for both men and women). The main thing is usually loose-fitting clothing to give the impression of medieval jungle survival gear of the time (basically what witches did while working their magic). There are layers of clothing and tall boots to of course protect you from any harm. We can understand why they opted for black, as black is a symbol of protection in the community.

Mufflers and cloaks are added to add to their air of mystery as the idea of witchcraft has always been veiled and misinterpreted on some level. Plus, it will help them easily walk away from unwanted situations (why has this started to sound like an introvert's dream?) and of course, keep them safe from danger.

The symbolism of the moon and sun is mostly used and feathers also denote messages from the spiritual world. Boho, is a dominant theme in many Strega fashion scenarios because the cultural presumption of witches is that they maintain the bare minimum of relationships (as all spiritual entities do). Also, if you are looking to specifically recreate a type of witch. For example, a kitchen witch, a pagan witch, a forest witch, etc., it is recommended to do a little digging in order to be in keeping with your aesthetic.
