Updating Your Altar
of reading
Changing the layout of your altar and the symbolic elements you use in spellwork can really improve your magical focus, as it helps prevent the lack of concentration that can come with repetitive or familiar work. The first time you begin a new ritual, you feel the energetic charge of the new thing, and being unfamiliar with it means that all your actions are conscious and deliberate. Changing the details of the jobs you do most can reignite that charge and refresh your focus in a way that only a new spell can.
A- USE OF COLOR IN THE MAGIC OF ALTARS
One of the most important aspects of setting up an altar (for me, anyway) is knowing how to use colors symbolically to give meaning to the spells. Do you attract money with green candles, a piece of raw jade, or perhaps a bouquet of basil picked by moonlight? I like to alternate between meaningful objects like raw charged green stones or my topaz wand, and objects chosen from my organic garden. Colors are important for focus and intention, and the proof is the difference between how you feel when you're lying on the grass in the sun and when you're working under a full moon.
B- UPDATING YOUR ALTAR LAYOUT CAN IMPROVE YOUR MAGICAL FOCUS
The other important aspect for me is how much the layout and choices of symbolic objects help me focus on what I'm trying to achieve. I don't have a long attention span and get bored easily, so updating this layout and the items I use periodically, including resin mixes which enhance the mood and help to the specific concentration, really helps me with this aspect. If you find you're having trouble maintaining concentration on spells you use often, try lighting some incense to change the atmosphere.
C- PLANTS ALCHEMY FOR RITUAL WORK
Likewise, herbal alchemy can help refresh your magical senses. In the depths of winter here in the southern hemisphere, throwing a handful of the mixture by the fire on a disc of charcoal instantly warms and lifts the spirits. Or to awaken the senses, use peppermint or willow bark before beginning your ritual.
